Ada Faucet Reach Requirements

The requirements of 4 19 shall apply to lavatory fixtures vanities and built in lavatories.

When the reach depth is over 20 inches deep a reach range of 44 inches applies. The minimum low forward reach is 15 in 380 mm. The faucet must be within 15 inches to 48 inches of forward reach. A 48 inch high limitation is required for all accessories except those mounted over obstructions including lavatory fixtures which are up to 20 inches deep. If side mounted the reach must be between 9 inches and 54 inches.

The department of justice published revised regulations for titles ii and iii of the americans with disabilities act of 1990 ada in the federal register on september 15 2010. Lavatories shall be mounted with the rim or counter surface no higher than 34 in 865 mm above the finish floor. The maximum high reach is reduced to 46 when the reach over an obstruction is deeper than 10 to a maximum of 24.

If a knee space is provided and the object that you are reaching for is located no more than 20 from the edge of the counter the object must be mounted no higher than 48 a f f.
